We are all excited about X-Men, be it their super cool mutant abilities or their pretty faces. Days of Future Past (DoFP) is SUCH AN AWESOME ACTION extravaganza it would be a pity if you did not watch it in 3D. The details are rendered in such jaw-dropping quality that you would feel that it is almost real when you see them up-close in 3D effects.
And of course, you also get to see Hugh Jackman aka Wolverine's 3D butt in one scene.
"Dat Ass"
(I tried to Google for Wolverine's butt scene in DoFP but there weren't any. I had to go through some obscene pictures in order to find this image for you all to relieve that scene if you have watched it, and if you have not, watch out for that scene because you will hear wolf-whistles everywhere. SEE, the sacrifice that Evilbean goes through for you all...)
One funny thing about this butt scene: Hugh Jackman watched the movie with his daughter and his son and it grossed his kids out. During that scene, his daughter was like "Oh dad, gross!".
But the worst traumatised was his son. His son watched the movie with six of his friends and he just can't even talk about that scene after the movie. LOL. Imagine your friends asking you questions like whether you inherited your dad's butt. AWKWARD MAX.
Movie Title - X-Men: Days of Future Past
Genre: +(Yes, Marvel is a genre on Talkingevilbean now)
Synopsis: The film has two main "antagonist", the "Future Enemy" Sentinels and the "Past Enemy" Dr. Bolivar Trusk (aka Game of Thrones Tyrion Lannister).
For arcade fans, you might recall that the Sentinels looked like this:
Very bulky looking and not fearsome at all. But in the DoFP, they looked really scary, especially in 3D:
The way they opened their face to attack the mutants is a bit like the zombies in Resident Evil 5:
You would definitely be on the edge of your seat while watching the mutants fight the Sentinels. Why are they fighting Sentinels? These are actually mutant-hunting robots created by Dr. Trusk, which eventually also targeted humans that they think is probable of becoming mutants in the future. With all those killings, the future is an apocalyptic wasteland in which only a few mutants are still surviving.
We then learn that the reason why the Sentinels are so hard to kill is because they are able to change themselves to mimic and counter the mutant's abilities. The creator of the sentinel program, Dr Bolivar Trusk, was assassinated by Mystique in 1973, and this murder spurred the humans to further the sentinel program. She was captured after the murder, and her unique DNA of being able to shape-shift is used in the making of the Sentinel, thus making them so powerful (It also means that the abilities of Mystique is AWESOME, except for the part that she is always naked).
In order to stop this tragic future, Professor Xavier decided to send Wolverine back to the past. Since they are the good people, their main goal is to stop Mystique from killing Dr Trusk, and the Sentinel programs won't happen. However, if you think evil-ly like me, then you might think: "Just kill Mystique can already what!"
Review: There are so many things that the Evilbean loved about this movie!
1. Star-studded Cast
DoFP has SO MANY stars whom you would have probably grown up watching - Hugh Jackman, Professor X (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and then there is Peter Dinklage from Game Of Thrones, Jennifer Lawrence from HUNGER GAMES and Evan Peters for his hilarious portrayal of Quicksilver in the film. It is such a joy to see characters that you are familiar with come onto the screen. Do you know that it has been 14 years since the very first X-Men movie came out? OMG?!
I really liked the scenes of Quicksilver. He plays a really quirky and interesting character in DoFP. Just look at this hilarious gif:
You will just laugh out loud at his character! However, when the director casted him for DoFP, some fans were outraged by the character's makeover saying he looked downright silly. This is a version of how Quicksilver looks like in the comics:
Well, he is slightly cooler looking with his green suit and white hair. But to me, he did an excellent job in entertaining us, which I felt is more important than being a direct replica of the comics. If you read the comics, you will also know that Quicksilver is actually the son of Magneto! The movie actually hinted at this relationship when he and Magneto were in the elevator. Look out for it if you have not watched it.
If you are like the Evilbean, who loved Quicksilver, he will be back in the sequel, "X-Men: Apocalypse," with a larger role. YAY!
2. Awesome Effects
I highly recommend you to watch it in 3D atmos theatres, e.g. GVmax. The attention to details is so awesome that I was totally absorbed in the movie. Also, the surreal sound effects will make you feel as if Wolverine is extending his claws right beside your ears. The numerous action sequences in DoFP will make the additional $3 you paid for 3D totally worth it, trust me.
3. Easter Eggs (Contains spoilers)
There are numerous numerous easter eggs in DoFP which you might have missed unless you Google it online. I have picked out some of the more interesting ones for you if you are lazy to Google:
- When Magneto impales Wolverine with all of those metal rods, their twisted shape jutting out of his body is a direct homage to a classic image from the comics -- one of Magneto ripping the metal out of Wolverine’s body.
- When Magneto goes to steal his helmet back, we see three other items from First Class. The coin that Magneto used to kill Sebastian Shaw, Havok’s damaged harness, and one of Angel’s insect wings. Eeeew.
- Shooting went on under the working title "Hello Kitty." This refers to X-Men member Kitty Pryde. LOL. Imagine, "Hey dad, what are you working on?"
"Oh son, it's a Hello Kitty Movie"
(Why is my dad getting so weird these days..)
- Including his cameo in X-Men: First Class (2011), this will be Hugh Jackman's seventh portrayal of Logan/Wolverine, raising his own record for the most times a comic book character has been played by the same actor in theatrical films. He will also be the only actor to appear in the entire X-Men film series. ALL HAIL WOLVERINE!
All in all, I really enjoyed Days of Future Past. After the movie, it also made me think of this cliche but interesting question: If you can be a mutant, who would you wanna be?
For the Evilbean, I want to be...
MAGNETO. Because I wanna be "attract-ive". Get it? HAHAHAHA.
Stay back for: It's a Marvel film. You gotta stay back. The post-credits scene is actually a setup to the next sequel, X-Men: Apocalypse!
Rating (out of 5 Evilbeans):
(4.5)
